TechTown Art

I recently spoke in Detroit on behalf of TechTown, a business incubator project associated with Wayne State University that’s working to create a next generation entrepreneurial environment in Detroit.

While speaking there, the folks at TechTown had a number of artists stand behind me and sketch their impressions of what I was saying on a whiteboard as I spoke. Recently they sent me photos of the artwork that was created, and I was very impressed with the work the artists spontaneously created to illustrate my speech.

I’d like to share all this artwork with you, and have instructed my staff to obtain clearance with TechTown and obtain the names of all the artists so they can be properly credited. In the meantime, here’s a little sample:

IT WOULD BE A PLEASURE TO KNOW THE NAME OF THE BOOK THAT Dean Witter Reynolds GAVE YOU ON THE FIRST DAY

Mr. Gardner,

Your story is very inspirational and gives me more encouragement to fight another day. I’m the primary parent of 3 beautiful children and for the last 9 years I’ve faced the challenges of being “mom” and “dad”. I made it through college obtaining my MBA in finance (2007) and I’m currently a level I CFA candidate. Although the job market in this part of Michigan has stagnated to say the least I’ve worked hard to obtain a position at a bank in the area. I look forward to helping lead this bank to $1B AUM (currently 500M). The principles in your new book were very timely for my life and I enjoyed the read. I hope to meet you in Midland, MI this Friday and buy you a cup of coffee or, at least shake your hand. Please continue to share your “aspirational” life.

Thanks for answering the question about the book, Andre. “Security Analysis” by Graham and Dodd is indeed one of a number of books that they asked us to study at Dean Witter. It’s been around forever and is considered a classic in the field. There’s a 2008 edition with foreword by Warren Buffett that’s for sale now, and a 1951 edition you can read for free on Google.

It’s brilliant that Chris is helping start-up entrepreneurs as well, and I’m in the process of starting my own brokerage - long road ahead! Great reference to “Security Analysis” by Graham and Dodd, thank you all for that, I must get it too.

I enjoyed you Friday morning Mr. Gardner. I had to leave as you finished but I did get a chance to meet your son. Continue sharing your life and helping others to achieve their potential.

Dear Mr. Gardner: I had the pleasure of listening to and meeting you at the Charlotte Literary Festival, thank you so much for being there!
Jaz did such a good job!
You may not remember but I told you that I had traveled from Florida to see you. I also mentioned that I refer to your story while teaching Welfare Transition clients during my financial education classes at the local Job Link offices, especially those who are stuck in the ‘victim’ mentality.
With your permission, I would like to incorporate even more of your experiences and wisdom into the classes. I was so excited to see that you offer other inspirational material for sale.
As you wrote in my book, “Let’s Do Something Big!”
I present the classes free of charge through the United Way.
Again, I want to THANK YOU for everything you do!
Sincerely, Germaine (Gerri) Ludwig

Hey Mr. Gardner,
I saw you in LA waiting for your flight with your Rubic’s cube. I told my wife, “that’ s the Pursuit of Happyness guy!” she didn’t believe me. After I met you I felt a little frustrated because I didn’t even tell you how much your story meant to me and had inspired me over the last couple of years. Anyway, I wanted to tell you that and also Thanks for treating me with respect when I met you. You never know what your going to get when you meet someone famous. Have a great day!

I’m so glad that I decided to come to your website today!  I had no idea you had so much going on, as of late.  I kept waiting for updates and haven’t recieved any via newsletter, so I came through to see what you’re up to and WOW! A new book, a bunch of new videos and this blog!  You’re really making your mark on the net (you go boy)!

I want to say, I’m so very impressed with the artwork from your Detroit visit (I’m a proud Detroiter).  It reminds me of the vision boards I’ve created for myself.  These works from your concepts are so very inspirational and true.  What a cool and effective tool for getting your ideas across and for creating synergy (sort of like mind mapping but, more defintive and empowering).  I believe that you are consistantly on the cutting edge of success theory and tactics.  I’m sooo happy you posted these inspriational works so that I can come back on a regular basis to absorb the power they impart.

Thank you for being you and for allowing others access to you and your positive and productive world.  I’m excited to get a copy of your new book!  For me, it’s right on time, this publication addresses where I am and I can’t wait to get to where you are!

I’ve taken the time to discover my talents, skills and passions.  I’ve begun work on several projects that I expect will create multiple streams of income.  Right now, I’m more than ready to get started right where I am.

Thanks for boosting my inspiration and level of hope.

Peace and blessings,  C. Rae White

Mr. Gardner,
I’m doing an argument/persuasion skills English class project based on the idea that those who are in poverty or homeless can escape the trap of welfare.  I would love for you to be a source for this project, but I do not know if you or your family ever relied on the welfare system.  If you could please let me know, it would be very much appreciated.  Thanks.
Sincerely,

Katie

Mr. Gardner:
Now is your time!  The big O will be out of the picture in a couple of years and you should be ripe with experience to HAVE YOUR OWN SHOW! It is high time for a Black male to host a talk show.  You are perfect for this assignment.  Get your people on top of this!!!! Two years is a lot of time for planning. Your writing is just okay but you are much more of a dynamic speaker with presence. USE IT!  MOve on this. People will watch you for sure!  Good Luck…

This picture is a good representation of him. It also shows what people think of him.

Hi Chris,
Those pictures have a lot too say and do inspire many. What I see through those picture is that when you’re(in genral)in some sort of trouble, sometimes there are more troubles, even the little ones, that are allways there. I can see that giving up isn’t ever the way to go, and never will be, and there is allways at least one person to turn to. In the movie, Pursuit of Happiness many reality situations happen. And it might be happening to people we know. Myabe some families even have to ask themselves, “Do we pay the heating bill, or do we feed the kids?” And in that movie things like this happened, and yet Chris managed to get out of them, and that is of a strong person…...

Hi Mr. Gardner.
I think that its amazing how you went from nothing to everything without giving up. You just kept fighting no matter how bad things got. You wouldn’t even let being homeless stop you. You kept fighting and working to your goal. It has made me see that i should never give up on anything, no matter how bad it seems.

HOLLA BACK WOULD LIKE TO GET TO KNOW YOU ..

Mr. Gardner,
I was honored to meet and speak with you last year at the United Way conference in Detroit.  You were kind enough to sign two books for two people close to me - my son who lost his father when he was 12 and my friend who was so discouraged in his job search.  My friend met you yesterday in KC and was as impressed by your warmth and genuineness as I was, in addition to the impact of your personal story.  It reminded me that I have wanted to talk to you about how you might help the organization I work for help more people.  THe problem of insurance and access to health care in this country is one that needs no introduction.  We distribute free prescription discount cards through over 900 local United Ways - today we reached a $100 million in savings for over one million people but there are so many more who still need help.  Many of those are the working poor, the working homeless and the working uninsured.  People who think there is no help for them and that they are invisible.  And they are.
Frankly, I am hoping that we can use your fame and reputation to get more media so that people can get these cards.  They are free, can be downloaded from the internet and can be used at 95% of pharmacies with an average discount of 32% or more and much, much higher savings with many generics.

I hope that we might discuss this.
thank you for your inspiring words to so many people and your personal ones to those dear to me.
